Man receives 2½-year sentence for Toronto bomb plot involvement

A young man who was convicted of terrorist attacks was sentenced for two and a half years in jail. “A man belonging to the so-called Toronto 18 terror group was sentenced to 2½ years in prison Friday, becoming the first person convicted in a domestic terrorism trial in Canada.” He was caught when he was seventeen and was to be tried as a child but they found he was still in contact with the terrorist group after his eighteenth birthday, so he was tried as an adult. He may not have done anything yet but he was going to and I think were taking in to easy on him. He should have way more time than two and a half years. “In a letter to the court, the man promised to work hard to contribute to society and declared, "I do not believe in participating in violent acts against anyone." He says this now and the court believe him but do you really think he is going to stop, I don’t. Usually people in terrorist groups are in it for life. They just can’t get up and leave because they were arrested. I think he should have at least twenty years in jail. I believe they could give him an exception, if he told who he was working with and all of the plans for terrorist attracts, than he would only get ten years.

Paperwork delays Bacon brother case

The case of the Bacon brothers has been delayed by paper work. Incase you don’t know the story; what happened was they killed six people in a Surrey, B.C. high-rise in 2007. The Bacon brothers and two other men, Cody Haevischer and Matthew Johnson, were there. They are now being charged with first degree murder. “James Bacon, Cody Haevischer and Matthew Johnson all appeared in court on Friday morning to face first-degree murder charges in relation to the execution-style slaying of six people in a Surrey, B.C. high-rise in 2007.” Its sad because they were all young men. “Bacon, 23, is charged with one count of first-degree murder. Haevischer and Johnson, both 24, have been charged with first-degree murder and being co-conspirators in the slayings of the six people.” A good question is what was going through these young men’s minds? Why did they do this?

You would think something like this would be looked at right away. You would think everyone would want justice for these people and you would not want to delay the case. “If that fails to happen, the judge said she might have to assign an administrative judge to look after the paperwork. The accused are due back in court June 15.” Hopefully these men get what they deserve (life in jail).

Vancouver's last XXX theatre can stay open, councillors rule

On Main Street neat Kingsway there is an xxx theater. It has been showing hardcore porn for the last twenty five years. “The Fox Cinema on Main Street near Kingsway has been screening hardcore pornography for the last 25 years” Many of the neat by stores have been complaining about the people that have been coming to the theater and they do not think it is appropriate. Robert Hirst discovered someone doing vial this while in the movie theater. "As he sat down, he put his hand into his fly, pulled out his genitalia, began masturbating," Hirst told the panel. "At that point, I climbed over the back of my seat and resumed standing, continuing observations." The police were notified but the theater was not shut down. I think that if the theater has been there for at least 25 year and nothing bad has ever happened there before that the police mad the right decision by not shutting it down. One person mistake should not ruin it for the rest of everyone else and the business owner. I think people are just getting all worried about the Olympics coming and they don’t want there business not look bad, which I can understand, but what there doing is trying to put someone else’s business at jeopardy. That’s not fair specially because the theaters probably been there longer than any other businesses. Hopefully people come to realize that what they are trying to do is unfair.

Job applicants with foreign names have lesser chance for interviews: UBC study

They are saying people looking for job that have a non English sounding name are less likely to find or get an interview for a job. “Job applicants with English-sounding names have a greater chance of getting interviews than those with Chinese, Pakistani or Indian names, a new study by University of British Columbia researchers suggests.” You have a 40% more chance of getting a job if you have a English name such a Bob, John, or Jill. Other wise you have way less of a chance which I think is completely unfair. If you work hard and your good at what you do you should be able to get a job no matter what you look like or what your name sounds like. People are way too obsessed with race. I mean what were all the same what does it matter if our names sound different of if we have different skin color.
I think that most businesses are discriminatory, whether it is to White, Black, Chinese, etc… Some place’s will not higher you because there so stuck on finding people that are non white so they can make there business look good and cultural. For example my friend who is white when to get a job at Orange Julius but all the people who worked there could hardly speak any English. Other places will only higher you if your white because they think that they are they only qualified people. Like I said before I think that everyone should get a fair chance and if you’re qualified you should get the job no matter what you look like or what your name is.

Alleged UN gang members appear on murder conspiracy charges

Four members of a B.C.’s notorious United Nations gang have been arrested and are being put on trial. “Soroush Ansari, Daniel Russell, Yong Sung John Lee and John William Croitoru all appeared relaxed as they entered the courtroom, waving to family and friends. During the brief hearing, all four were remanded into custody until June 9.” They are in court to face conspirisy to commit murder charges. They are still looking for one other member, Dilun Heng who will be charged for the same thing as the other four members. The police are saying that he will more than likely turn himself in. They also say they will be going stright to trial and there will be no palimanary hearing. What is going through theres young boys minds? I don’t know how you could even think about killing someomne. I hope these young men get what is coming to them., life in jail. Why whould they do this? Do they do this because they are unhappy with there own lifes, or just bored. Either way there is no excuse for what they are doing and the courts should hurry up give them there punishment and teach them a lessson. I feel bad for there familys, they must be so ashamed. This really reflects back on them, becouse it is your job to raise your child and teach them wright and wrong. They all must have had some really bad childhoods.

University rejects scholarship offer for non-aboriginal students only

A Saskatchewan University was given $500,000 to start a scholarship. The only catch was it was for non-aboriginal students. “The University of Saskatchewan has turned down a $500,000 offer to endow a scholarship because the donor wants the money to be spent only on non-aboriginal students”. The man who gave the money was a student. The university did not except the scholarship because of the racial issues and it would be violating human rights legislation. I think the school did the right thing by not excepting the money. It saved them a lout of bad publicity and legal charges. It would have been selective. I could see how some people would agree with the man offering the scholarship but only because woman and aboriginal people get theirs. This is selective not discriminatory. I think they did the right thing but I also this it is not fair that men and non-aboriginal people done get as much of a chance. If it was up to me I would make it fair so no one not deserving of it or not really trying would get one. There would be scholarships but for high grads in school and for sports. Hopefully one day we will all realize the unfairness.

Stop the Hunt!

“There are few issues more controversial in Canada and around the world than the annual seal hunt that takes place in the waters and on the ice floes off Atlantic Canada.” These poor seals are being beaten alive and then skined alive. The hunters dont check to see if there alive or dead before they skin the poor things. Why are we just starting to do somehting about this? Why have we not done anything about this before?

“You could have taken on the opportunity to make a beter living of it, tourisme, transporting tourists to see the seals, sell expensive pictures... Just as whales in Australia are more worth alive than dead.” I think this is a great statment and i one hundred percent agree with it. Why are we providing money for killing seals instead of for keeping them alive? We could be making profite off of this by selling beautiful pictures and making it a fun experence to go see them. We still have a chance to do this; we should be trying to help this situation not destroy it.

They are also saying that they want to use the seal skin for the Olympics. There going to make suits out of the skin. I think that’s cruel and I hope that no one allows this.
